What thermography actually shows
Thermography is a non-invasive imaging tool that measures heat patterns on the surface of the body. Because inflammation and increased blood flow create heat, it can detect physiological changes — often before structural changes (ie. cysts, tumours) appear on traditional imaging.
It highlights patterns such as:
- Areas of increased inflammation
- Asymmetrical heat patterns
- Abnormal vascular activity
- Changes over time when compared year to year
Thermography is a functional screening tool — it shows how tissue is behaving, not just how it looks.
More than breast screening
Although thermography is best known as a breast screening tool, this process can provide insights into many areas of health, including:
- Thyroid function
- Hormonal balance
- Lymphatic system
- Musculoskeletal system (joints, spine, soft tissue)
- Chronic pain patterns
- Digestive inflammation
- Oral and sinus health
FACTS
The NCI (National Cancer institute) in the USA actually has information about thermography as an important screening tool – even though it is not JUST for cancer detection!
